Sieg SX1 Micro Mill Metal Gears. The popular Sieg SX1 milling machine gearbox is made up of what seem to be glass fiber reinforced nylon gears. Tough for plastic, but not compared to steel. The "3040" in the model 3040Z-DQ means the working platform is 30cm by 40cm, in reality you can use about 27x37cm. The "Z-DQ" model uses NEMA23 stepper motors, ball screws, and has a 230W DC spindle motor. These Chinese CNC machines on ebay are good quality and cheap, but require that your computer has a parallel port.

This mod uses the 4 original 8 mm socket head cap screws and 4 hex head bolts, 8 mm x 35 mm. Spacer bolted to front half of head. Rear half of head is then bolted to spacer. This picture shows all that is left of my original Harbor Freight mini mill. Everything else has been replaced with parts from Little Machine Shop.

Belt drive upgrade for my Sieg X1 micro mill. Runs much quieter than the stock gearbox! Looks better too! Maximum measured spindle speed is ~2850, ~1750, and ~950 RPM respectively. Will definitely help with the smaller drills and endmills (smallest endmill I have is a 2-flute 3/32″)
