The grinding dust from CBN wheels is only tool steel. There is no abrasive grinding dust from the wheel. When used wet, it is entirely contained, as it is with any Tormek wheel. The wet stone grinder works well and is a good alternative to the much more expensive competition. Definitely value for money. For beginners, two items are worth of note: Firstly, the user manual is rather rudimentary, but there are plenty of videos available on the internet that bring you up to speed.

A wet stone system is good for honing your edge and touching it up, it is too slow for shaping and grinding. A slow speed grinder is just a bench grinder that runs at 1500rpm instead of 3000rpm, and when it comes to a quick sharpen is no slower than a normal speed grinder.

As the above said the demand is too low. Large wheels are not worth the effort when smaller wheels are so prevalent and cheap in the local market. Woodcraft Stores sell an 800 grit Japanese water wheel for 144.99, and a 4000 grit for 189.99 very similar to the rectangular stones I use in my kitchen. I will give them a go and see how it works.

A wet grinder will provide the sharpest edge by a long long way. I have a Tormec T8 and I can get a mirror finish on chisels and plane blades using both the grinding wheel and the leather strop wheel. However, the slow speed wet grinder is for sharpening only, not for shaping.
