The belt grinder, with trizact belts down to 6 microns, then finishing with a leather belt charged with green compound, produces excellent results for me. I only wish I could slow it down - the cheap 1/4 horse AC motor runs the belt very fast and if I'm not careful I can ruin the temper of the steel.

I've tried both a Ryobi and a WEN bench grinder to try and make a motorized burnisher. They are both cheap 6" grinders with 1/2 arbors. I also bought a pro edge burnisher that is supposed to fit motors with a 1/2" arbor, but the hole doesn't extend deep enough into the dowel.

Jan 14, 2012. #1. I should have put a scale in the photo, but it's 10" high and the table surface is 2 1/4 x 4 1/4". No markings on it anywhere. I added the green enamel, and the Norton wheel (a worn down one from the surface grinder at work). There are two eccentric knurled rollers that might have held a strap to anchor whatever was being ground.

Hi and thanks in advance for your help. I just joined the forum, but I have been a long time reader here. We have an approx. 5 year old Saeco Incanto Sirius superautomatic espresso machine, and up to now, I have been able to sort out its various intermittent errors and quirks, but this time, the grinder is blocked, and I have cleaned and cleaned it, and it won't move at all.

I want to upgrade to a burnishing machine to reduce the amount of stress on my body. Leather is only a part time gig for me but I work out of my bachelor apartment so space is a majorly limiting factor. I am wondering if I can get away with using a dremel burnisher instead of a modified bench grinder as it would take up a lot less space.

It's a Mk3 Eagle surface grinder, originally the 'wet' variant but now missing the splash guard, drain and coolant pump. This is how I found it, kept under a tarpaulin for 10 years.

Bench Burnishing. So wanted a bench burnisher. Saw all the threads about AC etc and the need for variable speed, loss of torque etc. Junked the idea of adapting a 400watt AC grinder and was looking to get a decent DC motor with speed controller. Saw a cheap (£60) wood lathe in Lidl today variable speed 800-3000 - 550 watt AC.
